New Aldi supermarket development approved for Huyton

Plans to transform vacant Huyton land with a new Aldi supermarket have been given the green light this week.

Knowsley Council’s planning committee has approved the development next to the junction of the M62 and Cronton Road, which will also include a building for light and general industrial use.

A later phase of the project, known as Beacon 62, is to include the development of further industrial buildings, a pub/restaurant and a petrol filling station.

A joint venture between Henry Boot Developments and Barnfield Construction will deliver the scheme, which will also include significant highway works to the junction of Cronton Road with Wilson Road, including new traffic lights, CCTV traffic monitoring, and improvements to pedestrian and cyclist facilities along Cronton Road.

With project said to have potential to support 480 jobs when fully developed, Dean Thompson, regional manager at Henry Boot Developments says: “Beacon 62 is an important gateway site with the potential to create a notable number of new jobs and bring significant investment into the area.

“Our aim is to create a successful, vibrant mixed-use scheme comprising retail, leisure and business use and which creates a new focal point for the area.

“We have eight acres now remaining and discussions with potential occupiers have been positive, so we expect to be able to make further announcements in the near future.”

Tracy Clavell-Bate head of development at Barnfield Construction, adds: “We have had a lot of support from the local community and look forward to getting started on site to create a scheme that is a real asset for the area.

“It’s incredibly well-located and we’ve no doubt that Beacon 62 will prove a successful destination for businesses and retailer and leisure operators alike.”
