A vacant 1950s office building in Liverpool’s commercial district could be extended and transformed into new homes.
District and Urban is planning to add three further floors to Crown House on James Street and create 23 new studio apartments within the building.
Proposals for the site, which sits within the Castle Street Conservation Area and the Liverpool Maritime Mercantile World Heritage Site, have been prepared by Craig Foster Architects and submitted to Liverpool City Council for consideration.
A document submitted within the plans suggests the office building has “proved difficult to re-let” and adds: “The proposal will bring back into use a currently vacant building creating residential use at a highly sustainable location with associated employment benefits.”
On-site cycle parking spaces would also feature in the development, if given the go-ahead.
