A derelict building on The Stand will become 122 new apartments, after plans were approved this week.
Mersey House, a ten-storey former office housing The Ministry of Defence, will be turned into apartments overlooking Liverpool’s waterfront and Albert Dock under the plans. Before the homes are completed the 1960s building will receive a makeover with floor-to-ceiling glass cladding to modernise the exterior.
Mersey House can be found next to the recently regenerated 30 James Street Hotel, while nearby Wellington House was sold at auction earlier this year as The Strand is transformed as part of several individual schemes.
Under a scheme introduced by the government in 2013 to make use of vacant office buildings, the office can be converted into residential apartments without the need for planning permission, but permission was needed for the exterior changes before work could get underway.
