Art exhibition by schools to launch at waterfront gallery

A pop-up exhibition by Merseyside school pupils will go on display at Liverpool’s Open Eye Gallery today (11 December).

Secondary school students from Upton Hall School are leading the Curious Gallery: An Exhibition Designed by Children project, along with input from young people at Claremount Specialist Sports College, Woodchurch High and Bellerive.

With a preview this evening from 6-8pm, the showcase of artworks by students in response to a previous display at the Mann Island venue called ‘Metamorphosis of Japan After the War’ will then be open until 13 December.

Sarah Fisher of Open Eye Gallery, Jude Bird from the Curious Minds organisation, which engages with young people through the arts and has supported the project, and Ann Spears of Upton Hall School are set to give speeches as the exhibition launches.

Having been put together with assistance from gallery staff following a series of workshops on writing and local post-war history, the showcase is then set to travel to Japan following its premiere at Open Eye Gallery.
