New Baltic Triangle venue to bring ‘funk and soul party’ back to Liverpool

A new Baltic Triangle music venue is promising to bring the “halcyon days of partying to funk and soul” back to Liverpool.

Located off Jamaica Street in former mechanic’s workshop, ‘Brick Street’ will feature a bar stocked with the “world’s finest rum” and a line-up of well-known resident DJs when it opens in February.

The team behind the new venue say they plan to “make a mark on the city, to spread the word of a dedicated funk and soul bar across the UK and to be of cultural importance to Liverpool and the Baltic Triangle”.

One of the venue’s three room’s will be know as the Sound Box – a sheltered courtyard which has been created at the former car mechanic’s workshop and scrapyard.

According to a premises license application submitted earlier this month, Brick Street will be used for both public and private events until 2am every day of the week, with a beer garden at the rear of the site slated to open in June.

A spokesperson for Brick Street says: “This city’s music scene is so vibrant, from house to techno to disco, there are some incredible nights and events on every week of the year. It’s time to bring funk and soul deeper into the fold.

“Those genres have always been the soundtrack to the purest and friendliest parties since it was first heard in Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Memphis, New Orleans and spread across the world.

“Everybody working to bring Brick Street to life loves different kinds of music. We will not discriminate against any genre. The venue has been created to be a place to have fun and hear new and old music.

“Our DJs will create good vibes and we hope Brick Street will be one of the most important bars and music venues in the city and the UK.”

Resident DJs confirmed include Kole, who supporting Chic at Echo Arena Liverpool last year; The Magnet’s John Dean; veterans No Fakin’, and DJ and wine expert Pooky.

Brick Street is the latest venue to be announced for the Baltic Triangle after the team behind Constellations revealed its third Liverpool venue ‘Hinterlands’, in December.
