A cavalcade of artists, acrobats and musicians are heading to the Baltic Triangle this weekend for Liverpool Mad Pride 2018.
Organised by Liverpool Mental Health Consortium (LMHC), the circus-themed event will feature burlesque and cabaret performances, clowns, pirates and belly dancers.
Running from 3-9pm at Jordan Street venue District on Saturday (21 April), audiences are being told to expect an event “bigger, better and more bonkers than ever”, with prizes on offer for the best fancy dress costume.
Meanwhile, hula-hoop and poi-making workshops will take place in the venue’s outdoor area, with the day culminating with a circus-themed parade featuring drumming, lanterns, unicycles and “all manner of magical creatures”.
Explaining Mad Pride, LMHC says: “Mad Pride is a global mass movement of people with lived experience of mental distress, survivors of mental health services and their allies, that began in Toronto.
“It seeks to reclaim terms such as ‘mad’ and ‘nutter’ from misuse. It aims to educate but, most of all, it celebrates and stands in solidarity with those who experience distress.”
