Crowdfunded Ropewalks restaurant prepares to open

A new crowdfunded restaurant is preparing to open in the Ropewalks.

Wreckfish Bistro, the brainchild of chef and restaurateur Gary Usher who also runs Burnt Truffle in Heswall and Chester eatery Sticky Walnut, will open to the public on 23 October.

Initially launched in January with a paywhat-you-want pop-up eatery, a successful crowdfunder for the restaurant on the corner of Seel Street and Slater Street subsequently raised £200,000.

Menu highlights include caramelised pork cutlet with chorizo, cashel blue arancini with port poached pears and gin cured trout with pomegranate molasses.

Italian Club celebrates 10 years

Bold Street favourite The Italian Club has celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

In 2007 husband and wife duo Maurizio Pelligrini and Rosaria Crolla launched the authentic deli-restaurant, which has been praised by the likes of The Times’ writer Giles Coren.

Since the birth of The Italian Club, the pair have also opened The Italian Club Fish on the same street and more recently The Italian Club Bakery.

Rosaria says: “Liverpool is a family city and all we’ve tried to do is bring our own families’ culture of wining, dining and entertainment to Bold Street and we are so grateful to everybody who has supported us.”

Izakaya discount for NHS staff

The Japanese eatery Izakaya is showing its gratitude for the country’s “unsung heroes” by offering NHS staff 20% off their bill.

The Castle Street restaurant says nurses, doctors, porters, and all of the other “amazing people” who work for the NHS can get the discount simply by showing their staff card.

Harry Marquart, Kurt Wilson and Gabriella Rose King opened Izakaya in January 2016 fuelled by a passion for sushi and all things Japanese.
