Cains Brewery Village’s Brewery Tap has been bought by a hotel and pub group which is expanding into Liverpool.
Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group (MHALG), which also acquired the city’s Doctor Duncan’s pub just over a month ago, already has bars and hotels in Southport and St Helens.
Attached to the former Cains Brewery, the Brewery Tap previously served pints brewed at the site.
In recent years the brewery site and its surroundings have been undergoing a transformation, becoming home to a number of bars, eateries, cafes, retailers and leisure attractions.
Andrew Mikhail, chairman of MHALG, says: “Cains Brewery Village is undergoing a huge resurgence and we are really excited to be part of this. It’s a really busy, vibrant part of the city and we are looking forward to playing a part in the future of the village.
“Over the past couple of years, people have come to know what to expect from the venues that we own; great customer service and high quality products, from a pint to a hotel stay. The Brewery Tap will fit into that and will offer a great night out in the heart of Liverpool.
“This pub is steeped in history and has something unique to offer and we look forward to meeting customers old and new.”
MHALG already owns St Helens’ Eccleston Arms and the Bold Hotel in Southport, where it is also opening Lord Street Hotel with a wine and Champagne bar this month.
Punch Tarmey’s Irish pubs in Southport and St Helens also form part of the group’s portfolio along with Doctor Duncan’s, which recently underwent a mini refurbishment before opening its doors last week. The St John’s Lane pub is now being managed by Dominic and Fiona Hornsby.
The former Cains and Okells Brewery licencees have previously managed other well known Liverpool pubs, with Fiona spending 15 years at Rigbys and Dominic previously leading the Fly in the Loaf.
Mikhail says that the acquisitions of Stanhope Street’s Brewery Tap is not the only expansion still to come for the firm, as he adds: “We promised last month that there are further exciting announcements to be made regarding MHALG’s expansion plans in the coming weeks. This is one of them but there is much more to come in the next few weeks and we look forward to sharing the details soon.”
