Call for community-focused groups to take on new Market Place café

Charities, community investment companies and social enterprises could help breathe new life into Prescot’s Market Place.

Organisations are being given an opportunity to become a tenant of the new café/multi-use building which forms part of the area’s £500,000 transformation.

Commercial businesses with a community focus could also be in the running to take on the space.

Knowsley Council is looking to for an occupant to offer a food and drink provision within the new café or coffee shop.

In exchange for a peppercorn rent, the chosen tenant will also be required to host regular community events, activities and performances, along with participating in big events such as the Prescot Festival and Elizabethan Fayre.

Councillor Graham Morgan, Knowsley’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, says: “This space will integrate with the proposed Shakespeare North Playhouse, town centre connectivity improvements and other developments to deliver a building and space that will truly enhance the character and appearance of Prescot’s conservation area.”

The design of the new look Market Place, which is being delivered through the Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative, was selected through a RIBA design competition earlier this year and a planning application for the development is being considered by the council.
