Community groups benefit from Burbo Bank Extension Fund

Organisations and projects across the Liverpool City Region have received a boost thanks to Ørsted’s Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund.

A total of £112,500 was available to community projects as the fifth round of grants was awarded by the fund.

Wallasey Village United Reformed Church has received £13,500 and Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid has picked up a £19,000 share.

Bootle’s Kindfulness Coffee Club has also been handed £15,000; Wirral Churches’ Ark Project, Wirral Dinghies has been awarded £10,000 and UTS Community Sport and Health Hub in Hoylake has received £12,000.

Other local recipients in the latest round include Christians Against Poverty at New Brighton Baptist Church, Sefton’s Choose Life The Prisoners Initiative, Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted, Salvation Army Bootle, Friends of Hilbre Island, and Royden Park Ranger Volunteer Group (pictured) for Irby Quarry Meadows.

The list of 15 new projects, which also includes some North Wales-based recipients, join 58 other groups who have already benefited from grant support through the fund since it launched in May 2015.

Each year for the 25-year lifetime of the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm around £225,000 is to be made available for community projects benefiting the local area.

Natasha Nanuck, Ørsted’s stakeholder advisor, says: “We’re absolutely delighted to announce the winners of this round of funding. The regions in which we operate are at the heart of our business so, as well as bringing skilled jobs and engaging with young people through our education partnerships, we support local organisations through this community benefit fund.

“The next round of funding is now open, where again £112,500 will be up for grabs, so we strongly encourage local projects in need of funding to apply.”

The Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund is being managed by national grant-making charity GrantScape, and the closing date for the next round of applications is 28 March 2018.
