Dancers wanted for Liverpool’s 2015 Chinese New Year celebrations

A dance group is seeking out local participants to be part of their performance during this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations.

Movema World Dance Company’s ‘World Dance Wednesdays’ begins this week in preparation for the event and are looking out for people of all dance abilities to join them.

Since their launch at the Africa Oyé festival in 2009, the company have given dance performances from across the globe and workshops throughout the North of England.

The programme includes an eclectic mix of Ba Qua Martial Arts, Contemporary, Street and Traditional Chinese Dance, which will all be included in Liverpool’s world famous celebrations in Chinatown on 22nd February.

‘World Dance Wednesdays’ invites visitors to join to be part of the exciting show or just to keep fit, meet new people and learn some dance skills.

“So many kids come and enjoy themselves, it’s a really fun thing to do together with your family.” Says Ali, 38, from Liverpool. “Classes have taken off amazingly well and I’m really looking forward to working with new talent in this city. It’s a great opportunity to get fit and learn more about Chinese culture and dance so get to class and dance with us!”

Classes are from 6-7pm every Wednesday at The Black-E and suitable for ages 8+. All under 16’s must be accompanied by adult. Classes cost £4.50/£2.50 for concessions and run from 7th January-19th February 2015.
