Designer footwear store plans Baltic Triangle opening

A Liverpool-based designer footwear and clothing retailer is planning a new store in the Baltic Triangle.

Seven, which has been in Liverpool ONE since 2016, wants to relocate to a larger space at the junction of Jamaica Street and Norfolk Street.

The retailer has submitted plans to Liverpool City Council for the transformation of 26 Norfolk Street.

The ground floor of the red brick building currently accommodates an office, with the basement vacant – its last use being for the storage and distribution of whale oil.

According to proposals, the store will be more than a showroom or retail space, it will also be a “platform for the local creative and digital community at the heart of the Baltic Triangle”.

Melodic Distraction Radio will be hosting a radio show from the store with international guests, whilst Baltic Triangle-based Dorothy Design Agency will provide limited edition prints and collaborative events.

Seven says its current store in Liverpool ONE does not fit with its “concept, commercial requirements and brand expectations”, hindering its growth and future success.

A document included with the planning application adds: “A new location has been driven by the need for more floorspace, the development of the Seven concept to attain new and develop existing brands whilst ensuring the business remains viable.

“The proposed location within the Baltic Triangle will ‘unlock’ higher-end, limited edition and new generation products across current and new suppliers.

“The Baltic Triangle location is paramount to securing the supply of top tier limited edition specialist products from recognised brands, as these are only available to niche retailers in the right cultural locations.”

The new store will support “London new generation designers” and will have “exclusive distribution” in the city for these brands, as well as international brands from Sweden, Belgium, Austria, USA, Japan and South Korea.

Seven says arrangements are already in place for its existing store in Liverpool ONE to be absorbed by an adjacent retailer.

Seven is currently neighboured by Schuh Kids and DROME/Footasylum.
