A first look at how Prescot’s Shakespeare North Playhouse will appear inside has been unveiled.
The Shakespeare North Trust, which is behind the plans for the £26 million theatre and education attraction, released the impression to coincide with the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.
Plans for the new venue, which will receive £6 million of funding from Knowsley Council and £5m from the government, were approved by Knowsley’s planning committee last week.
A more detailed image of how the exterior of the theatre will look once it has been built just metres from the site where the town’s original Elizabethan theatre once stood will has also been released.
During the Elizabethan era, Prescot was the only town outside of London to have a purpose-built indoor playhouse.
