First look: The Alchemist – Liverpool’s latest cocktail bar and restaurant

Your Move has been given a sneak peek at Liverpool city centre’s latest upmarket cocktail bar and restaurant The Alchemist.

The Brunswick Street establishment, where the drinks are served fresh off the Bunsen burner or billowing a plume of evaporated dry ice, will opens its doors to the public on Monday (August 15).

The Alchemist’s interiors are stylish, bathed in a warm coppery glow with Masonic imagery adorning the walls to add a dash of quirkiness to the venue.

With a drinks menu modelled after the periodic table of elements and cocktails served in beakers and chemistry flasks, the bar comes across as a hybrid of nightspot and luxurious science lab.

Cocktails are as much about the showmanship and preparation as the flavours they offer, with alcoholic ones starting at around £7 and non-alcoholic concoctions at £4.20.

Bar snacks are also on offer and more substantial dishes are served in the venue’s spacious restaurant area, which boasts a varied menu spanning everything from tapas to brunch and Sunday roasts.

Jack Doran, assistant general manager at The Alchemist, tells Your Move: “I think The Alchemist offers something we’ve never seen before in Liverpool. The kind of drinks we offer don’t just attack one sense in taste, they’re also about the sight and aroma. Our drinks are massively over the top and theatrical.

“We want to cater for everyone. We’re hoping to get that lunchtime rush from businesses nearby but we’ll be open until 2am of a weekend, so we want a nice lively crowd of a night and a wide variety of customers.”

The Brunswick street site is The Alchemist’s sixth bar and restaurant in the UK, with others operating in Manchester, Birmingham and London.
