Free events will take place at two Liverpool parks this week to mark National Bookstart Week.
Designed to encourage families to enjoy reading together, the celebrations at Stanley Park and Sefton Park will include storytelling, games, wildlife workshops, art and dancing.
The activities were devised by Liverpool Libraries, children’s centres, Stanley Park Liverpool CIC and other Bookstart partners, and are aimed at families with young children.
National Bookstart Week is an annual celebration of BookTrust’s flagship reading programme which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, based on the theme ‘Let’s Explore Outdoors’.
All children who attend will receive with a free copy of the picturebook ‘Everybunny Dance!’ by Ellie Sandall.
Diana Gerald, chief executive of BookTrust says: “We are thrilled so many children will receive a copy of ‘Everybunny Dance!’ to help celebrate 25 years of BookTrust’s flagship programme Bookstart.
“It is important for parents and carers to find the time to read with their children, sharing the adventures that books can offer. Shared reading and encouraging reading for enjoyment from a young age can help children on their reading journeys and inspire a lifelong love of reading.”
The free events will take place at the Isla Gladstone Conservatory in Stanley Park as well as Sefton Park’s Palm House on Wednesday 7 June between 10am and 12pm.
