Liverpool City Council’s planning committee has approved plans to hold music events at Anfield stadium.
Liverpool Football Club was awarded a temporary two-year licence today (18 September) to host six music events outside of the Premier League season at the famous venue.
A decision on LFC’s original plans for up to 10 concerts to take place during May and June was deferred by the planning committee at the end of August.
Changes to the original plans including free tickets for residents, improved CCTV in the local area and a reduction in the number of concerts, appear to have swayed the planning committee.
The club will make 25 pairs of tickets available to the local community for each event – common practice for other venues including the Etihad Stadium.
A pre-event newsletter will be distributed to households ahead of each concert containing details of how residents can apply to enter a free draw to win tickets.
The current capacity of Anfield for football use is 54,074. Depending on where the stage is located, it’s anticipated the stadium could accommodate up to approximately 60,000 people for concerts.
The club’s proposal to host non-football sporting events at Anfield was rejected at the August planning meeting.
A number of objections to the plans were put forward by and on behalf of neighbouring residents, citing concerns including an increase in disruptions and noise levels and risks of anti social behaviour.
