Liverpool’s ‘ambitious’ Christmas party plan unveiled

Liverpool ONE has unveiled its full plans for this week’s celebratory Christmas launch, as it undertakes “one of the most ambitious projects” since its 2008 arrival.

On Friday 13 November the shopping and leisure complex will kick off a festive extravaganza, as part of a citywide campaign led by Marketing Liverpool to create ‘One Magical City’.

Kicking off at 4pm with live music, entertainment and street performances, the event will then see Paradise Street light up from 6pm in a build up to illuminating this year’s giant 30-metre Christmas Tree, which is believed to be the biggest in the country.

With Liverpool ONE having called on the creative learning team from the Liverpool Empire Theatre to ensure the glowing display wows spectators, the theatre’s creative learning manager, Natalie Flynn, says: “The partnership with Liverpool ONE for this event has provided an incredible opportunity to bring the red carpet experience and spine-tingling performances out of the traditional theatre space and to the people of Liverpool.”

Local bands will perform on a main stage on Paradise Street’s Starbucks rooftop during the celebrations, and theatre fans will also be given a sneak peek as performers from across Merseyside including the Empire’s Shrek the Musical stars and the Epstein’s Cinderella cast members join Santa for special showcases on South John Street.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Philharmonic String Quartet and Northern String Quartet will be joined by ballroom dancers as they serenade shoppers with Christmas music.

The party will also mark the opening of this year’s Ice Festival in Chavasse Park, and ice carvers will be on hand to welcome its arrival with the creation of 3D sculptures.

Ahead of the spectacular event, which will see festive helpers handing out prize-filled crackers to shoppers too, Donna Howitt, marketing and business performance director at Liverpool ONE, says: “This is one of the most ambitious projects we’ve undertaken since opening in 2008.

“We hope this event will evoke some traditional Christmas memories for our visitors while creating some new exciting ones for our youngest guests. We look forward to welcoming them to what is surely going to be a magical evening.”
