Liverpool’s New Chinatown scheme could change hands

Liverpool’s New Chinatown regeneration scheme could change hands after developer North Point Global (NPG) entered talks with a potential buyer.

Warrington-based Your Housing Group, the company behind the Anfield regeneration project, is in negotiations to take on the city centre development.

A statement from NPG reads: “There have been ongoing sale negotiations with Your Housing Group in relation to the New Chinatown development in Liverpool which are continuing at the present time. However, no binding agreement has been entered into with them.

“Chinatown Developments have received significant interest from various parties around the world over the availability of the New Chinatown site on a purchase or joint venture basis and will consider these in due course.”

Set in the heart of Europe’s oldest Chinese community, New Chinatown is a £200 million venture which is expected to see hundreds of new apartments built on land off Great George Street, complete with new retail and leisure facilities.

Groundwork has already begun on the first phase of the project and NPG claims that a planning application for the second and third phases is forthcoming.

The statement adds: “Chinatown Developments is looking at a detailed planning application for Phases 2 and 3 of the site to take advantage of the enormous popularity of Phase 1 which is already underway.”
