New brewpub selling ‘Eton Mess Sour beer’ opening in Baltic Triangle

A new brewpub selling “crazy experimental beers” is set to open in the Baltic Triangle next week.

Gaz Matthews, co-founder of Liverpool-based Mad Hatter Brewing, is behind Gibberish Brewpub on Caryl Street which will also offer a ‘Peanut Butter Raspberry Jelly Stout’.

Gaz says he wants to “demystify the world of ales” with the name of his new venture alluding to his take on the current craft beer climate.

The new venue will allow Gaz to brew and sell all of his creations on the same premises and constantly rotate the menu of craft beers and other beverages.

Gaz adds: “Gibberish is focused on bringing together all the elements of brewing I’ve enjoyed most over the years – crazy experimental beers, sours of different descriptions, modern IPAs, ancient historical recipes and mead making.

“The idea is to bring the old and the new together to create a kind of ‘trad craft’ offering.

“Emphasis on well-kept cask, interesting keg, and customers can take beer away in growlers. Mead using locally produced Postcode Honey will also be on show fermenting behind the bar.”

Local artist Amee Christian has been commissioned in to paint an interior mural which will evolve over time and the venue will also host regular live music events.

Gibberish Brewpub will open with a special launch night featuring sets from Blind Monk Trio next Thursday (14 December).
