Former Prescot pub the Red Lion Hotel could be given a new lease of life under mixed-use plans for the site.
The vacant three-storey building on Market Place could be transformed into a ground floor eatery with six upper floor apartments.
Applicant Eventmore, said to be the new owner of the site, has submitted a planning application to Knowsley Council for the project.
According to a document put forward to the local authority: “The public house has remained vacant/to let and boarded up for over six months as a result and has attracted unwanted attention and has been subject to vandalism.
“The building has been marketed as to let/for sale on a number of occasions in the past without success, therefore the proposed change of use has been thought out and recommended, as it is the least disruptive, offers security to the site, is in demand, and is in keeping with the existing layout of the building and the town centre.”
If given the go-ahead, the whole building would be refurbished and brought up to date to make way for a café or restaurant and the new homes.
It has included commercial and residential space in the past.
