Prescot coffee shop Poco reveals boutique bar plans

A popular Prescot coffee shop has revealed plans to open a boutique bar specialising in gins from around the world.

The owners of Poco Coffee are looking to capitalise on the town’s regeneration plans which include the multi-million pound Shakespeare North Playhouse.

Richard Sutton, co-founder of Poco, has told YM Liverpool that the plan is to continue with a café on the ground floor and to create a bar on the first floor inspired by the building’s Tudor façade and Grade II-listed status.

Specialising in gins from around the world and craft bottled beers, the new bar will serve a signature ‘Hopping Bob’ gin cocktail – named after a former tenant of the building who acted as a barber and travel agent in the early 20th Century.

30 Eccleston Street was listed in 1985.

Richard has recently gained a premises license for the Eccleston Street property’s first floor from Knowsley Council, and is now in the process of applying for a change of use from shop to restaurant/café/bar.

As part of the revamp, the downstairs coffee shop will offer a wider choice of menu items, as well as afternoon tea.

Richard plans to launch the updated establishment at the end of February/early March 2019.
