From the owners of popular city centre venues Leaf and Oh Me Oh My, a quirky venue has arrived on Old Hall Street.

One Fine Day is the latest café to open in the business district at the Cotton Exchange and serves breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, snacks and small plates and all day mains. Interestingly, it also has a takeaway option for anyone wishing to grab a bite on the go.

Having rarely been around this part of the city of a night, I was excited to try this new venue.

Located just around the corner from Moorfields station, the café, bar and events space is easy to find and really accessible.

As my dining partner and I entered the venue we noticed its relaxing atmosphere had attracted a wide range of people; from those obviously winding down on a Friday night from a hard week’s work in the city to younger groups and families.

Having been shown to our seats in a wonderful part of the restaurant by our attentive host Jacob, we then ordered drinks. One thing to note is that you need to order food and drinks at the bar.

I chose a Kharma Cola (£2.95) and my dining partner plumped for Lemony Lemonade (£2.95). They were completely different (in a fantastic way) from the conventional soft drinks you’d usually buy from elsewhere – they tasted natural.

To start on the food, we both ordered the Soup of the Day (£3) which was a combination of tomatoes and pancetta.

Also, as a lover of bread and balsamic vinegar and olive oil I couldn’t miss on the opportunity to try the selection of toasted bread with balsamic olive oil (£4) which came accompanied by garlic butter, sea salt, olives and flatbread.

I’d definitely recommend combining some of the snacks with the small dishes because the toasted bread with the soup was truly sensational.

The soup and the bread were presented beautifully. Care, precision and quality appeared to be the overriding themes of the two dishes.

Our mains quickly followed.

I chose Moroccan Marinated Chicken (£10) which came with sun-dried tomatoes, bulgar wheat and herb vinaigrette. The chicken was tender, sliced perfectly and fell off the bone with considerable ease. It combined beautifully with the vegetables and herb vinaigrette to explode with flavour.

Whilst I was savouring every mouthful of this delightful main, my dining partner had started to dive in to her well-done 7oz slice of steak with chips (£12) which came with bone marrow and egg yolk puree, roast sweet potatoes and Chimichurri.

One thing worth pointing out is that the staff at One Fine Day seem more than happy to deal with any issues you may have. My dining partner wanted her steak cooked slightly longer and they were more than happy to do so, offering additional things to eat whilst she waited.

Finally, after being informed that the dessert menu had not properly launched, we were shown to the counter to choose from a selection of cakes. My dining partner and I both chose a slice of Victoria Sponge each (£2.95) and we weren’t disappointed!

One Fine Day reflects the modern food tastes which have become ever more prevalent in Liverpool’s thriving foodie scene, but the contemporary café menu sets it apart from the rest with its nourishing dishes ensuring diners truly have a fine day.
