Revamp planned for Childwall tennis club

Plans to modernise a South Liverpool tennis club have been revealed.

East Wavertree & Childwall Lawn Tennis Club on Dunbabin Road has submitted proposals to upgrade and extend its ageing pavilion and facilities in an effort to prevent members potentially leaving the club.

The proposed enhancements, which also include the provision of ramped access to the front door for disabled users, improved changing rooms, a new meeting room and a larger kitchen, have been made possible due to a “sizeable” donation from a club member.

A planning document submitted to Liverpool City Council on behalf of the club by Cass Associates states that the club building “provides out dated facilities and is no longer fit for purpose.”

It adds: “The state of these facilities may lead to a position where membership starts to decline. The club through a recent donation has an opportunity to enhance the building to create a modern and up to date facilities demanded by members and the Lawn Tennis Association.”

Tennis at the club is played at both a social and competitive level with six mens and three ladies teams entered within the leagues of the Liverpool and District Tennis Group.
