Spanish pinchos restaurant Roja Pinchos will launch a new gin and cava bar in its basement at the end of June, it has revealed.
Named Abajo – the Spanish word for ‘below’ – the bar is located underneath the popular Berry Street restaurant and claims to have Liverpool’s largest selection of cava available. Also specialising in gin and cocktails, the bar will open at the end of the month.
Roja Pinchos is the first pinchos bar in the city, a name given to a style of Spanish food that comes in bitesize pieces. The unique restaurant allows diners to pay per ‘pinchos’ instead of a set price for an entire meal.
Abajo is not the first gin bar to open in Liverpool in recent weeks; popular Hope Street restaurant The Side Door has reopened as Jenever, serving gin and food, while Cedar Food and Drink offers gin and cocktails in the basement of the former Le Bateau club on Duke Street. Meanwhile, The Botanical Garden is an outdoor gin garden that has opened for the summer in the Baltic Triangle area.
The new bar is the latest to open on Berry Street, which has seen American diner Rack and Dollar and cocktail bar Red Door open in recent months. The street also houses popular whisky bar Berry and Rye.
