Sound City and Smithdown Road bring festival-filled bank holiday

Musicians from Liverpool and beyond will perform live across the city this bank holiday weekend as two jam-packed festivals take place.

Sound City returns for 2018 in its new Baltic Triangle location throughout 5-6 May, bringing more than 300 bands across 20 venues.

Acts including Peace, DMA’s, Idles and Baxter Dury will take over spaces like the recently launched Hinterlands and the popular 24 Kitchen Street to Hangar 34 and Camp and Furnace during the ticketed event.

Elsewhere in the city, Smithdown Road Festival is back with organisers promising 2018 to bring the event’s biggest year so far.

The free festival, raising money for Liverpool charity the Whitechapel Centre, will see more than 180 musicians perform on an outdoor stage at Mystery Park as well as on 15 other stages in venues along the street.

From 4-7 May, visitors can expect to see artists including Space, John Power, The Loose Moose String Band a Steeling Sheep DJ set.

There’ll also be a kids’ activities, markets and food among the attractions during the weekend-long family event.
