An exhibition highlighting the significant artist’s pivotal role in the development of modern art in Britain, as well as his transition from representation to abstraction.

17-18 November 
The Hartlepool Monkey 
Unity Theatre
A stage version of the legend of the chimpanzee who made it to Hartlepool’s shore after the French ship of which he was a mascot ran aground, only to be mistaken for a spy and condemned to a life-or-death trial. It features puppetry from Gyre & Gamble, the original ‘War Horse’ puppeteers.

Camp and Furnace
Fashionistas are in for a treat as the pop-up sample sale returns, featuring international designers and homegrown talent and lifestyle, fashion, beauty and gifting labels under one roof.

For Love or Money
Blake Morrison has adapted Alain-Rene Lesage’s 12th Century comedy ‘Turcaret’ to create a story of wealth and lies in this Northern Broadsides production.
