Work underway on Shenanigans expansion

Work to expand a popular Irish pub in Liverpool city centre is underway.

Shenanigans on Tithebarn Street is getting an extra bar on the first floor and its own roof terrace.

General manager Gary Forshaw has confirmed that work on the first stage of the expansion has now begun – starting with the creation of a new staircase running from the cellar to the top floor.

After the new staircase is installed, work to improve the cellar will take place, allowing Shenanigans to increase its draught products on offer.

Work will also soon begin on installing a new bar on the first floor, with Gary revealing that he has another couple of ideas in mind for the upstairs area.

It’s hoped the revamp, which will also include new toilets on the ground floor, will attract business events and wedding receptions to the venue.

A public house has stood on the site of Shenanigans since at least 1841.

The earliest recorded name for the pub was ‘The Revolving Lamp’ in 1894. In the same year the pub was bought by Peter Walker and Son – becoming the first of 11 Walker pubs on Tithebarn Street.
