Liverpool restaurant Wreckfish has been named one of the country’s top 20 eateries.
The Slater Street bistro was voted number 19 in The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards 2018 annual Top 100 UK restaurants.
Chef and owner Gary Usher himself was shortlisted for the prestigious Chef’s Chef of the Year award.
His South Manchester restaurant Hispi also made list – reaching number 46.
The awards are based on the votes of 180 industry experts including chefs, food writers and restaurateurs.
Wreckfish, based in a former watchmakers building, opened in early 2017 with a series of pop-up, pay-what-you-want dining events.
Gary says: “I couldn’t have been more chuffed when we found out Wreckfish had made the top 100.
“However, to find out it’s in the top 20 is just amazing. Both the Wreckfish and Hispi teams really deserve this recognition and I’m just so proud.”
The wins come less than two weeks after Gary broke the record for the UK’s fastest UK based food project on Kickstarter to hit $100k – raising £1 every second for 24 hours for his next bistro, Pinion in Prescot which is set to open this autumn.
