A contactor has been appointed to build the first homes by Liverpool City Council’s new ‘ethical housing company’.

Subject to planning consent, the chosen housebuilder will deliver more than 100 properties in a North Liverpool scheme costing around £14 million.

Birkenhead-based Lovell Partnerships will work with the local authority’s Foundations company, which was formally established in January, to build on land off Ackers Hall Avenue in Yew Tree.
A mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes is proposed for the development, which will kick off Foundations’ decade-long £500m initiative to create 10,000 residential properties.

The Yew Tree site, which was previously occupied by a city council housing estate, has been identified as having good potential for housing development as it’s located in a residential area with access to local schools and colleges and a good road network.

Frank Hont, who was recently named chair of Foundations, says: “I’m delighted we have appointed Lovell to deliver our very first Foundations scheme – this is a symbolic moment for what will become a landmark programme. Lovell have a great track record in delivering accessible homes which is fundamental to our ambitions.

“There will be a real emphasis on quality and affordability and I’ve no doubt they will provide people with many differing needs a perfect home. This site is in Yew Tree also highlights the fact that we’re going to use Foundations is rebuild and enhance communities.”

Lovell’s regional managing director, Nigel Yates, adds: “We’re extremely proud to be working in partnership with Foundations and Liverpool City Council to deliver the first of these much-needed high quality homes for local people.

“Our team is very excited to be using its expertise in developing different types of affordable housing across a range of tenures to this important project which will bring attractive, energy-efficient brand-new homes to an established residential area.”

A planning application is expected to be submitted in August for the project, with the Lovell construction team aiming to start work on the homes by the end of this year.
