Plans to build a four-star hotel next to Liverpool’s new cruise liner terminal have been recommended for approval by the city council’s planning committee.
It’s envisaged the 10-storey, 200-bedroom complex will cater for the increased number of passengers using the proposed cruise facility at Princes Dock.
The development also includes plans for a lobby bar, café, restaurant, business suite and back of house facilities – together with visitor parking, coach parking and a taxi pick-up and drop-off point.
Next Tuesday (8 October), the plans will be recommended for approval at a meeting of the council’s planning committee, whilst proposals for the new cruise terminal itself are currently subject to a reserved matters application.
The proposed terminal development would comprise the dismantling of the redundant and derelict jetty and construction of the new terminal on a new jetty in the River Mersey.
The cruise liner terminal, equivalent to the size of two football pitches, would be serviced by an off-site multi-storey car park and will enable the world’s largest cruise ships (up to 3,600 passengers) to embark and disembark at Liverpool and is expected to directly create more than 500 new jobs.
A document recommending the hotel plans for approval reads: “The hotel is intended to help meet the increased demand for bed spaces arising from the increased passenger numbers generated by the adjacent proposed cruise liner terminal, with passengers seeking to stay in the city, close to the terminal, the night before embarkation.
“It will also serve the wider growth in tourism generally in Liverpool. The scheme has been designed to integrate with the cruise liner terminal and incorporates a flexible servicing, car and coach parking area to the south of the hotel, which will operate differently on cruise liner days.”
