Greenlight for housing development in Knowsley for up to 600 homes

Planning permission has been granted for the first phase of almost 600 new homes in Knowsley.

A new partnership between Countryside and Knowsley Council will build high quality new homes on vacant land owned by the local authority in five locations with schemes given the go-ahead on Scotchbarn Lane, Prescot and Arncliffe Road, Halewood.

The other proposed developments currently under consideration by the planning committee are on Greensbridge Lane, Halewood; Roby Road, Huyton; and Tower Hill, Kirkby.

Councillor Mike Murphy, Knowsley Council cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, says: “I’m delighted that we are working with Countryside to regenerate different areas of Knowsley and deliver high quality housing developments.

“Countryside has a well-deserved reputation as one of the UK’s most successful housing developers and is precisely the calibre of partner we want to work with.

“This partnership gives us the opportunity to regenerate Knowsley and improve the range of quality housing available both to existing Knowsley residents and to attract new people to choose to move into the borough.”

The development will include 583 homes ranging from two to five bedroom houses with affordable, shared ownership schemes available.

Philip Whitehead, regional regeneration director for Countryside, says: “This major initiative in Knowsley is an exciting range of projects in which affordable housing plays a key role.

“We’re extremely pleased to be working alongside Knowsley Council to further enhance their communities by providing a varied selection of high quality homes that will cater for the needs of first time buyers, growing families and aspirational movers alike.

“We’ve already helped a number of Merseyside buyers climb onto the property ladder and we look forward to replicating this success across these five new developments.”
