A 16-year-old housing sector trainee has become the 1,000th apprentice to join Knowsley Council’s successful programme.
Former Prescot School pupil Leah Lewin has started working in First Ark’s Contact Centre in Prescot having secured the role through the Knowsley Apprentice scheme.
The customer access apprentice from Huyton is taking currently calls from KHT tenants, dealing with enquiries about rent, taking payments and setting up Direct Debits in the position, while also studying towards her NVQ Level 2 in customer service.
As Leah continues to develop during her apprenticeship, she’ll also be trained to deal with requests for housing repairs and the Property Pool service, which assists people moving house.
She says: “I applied for the Knowsley Apprentice programme while I was still in school as I thought it would be a great opportunity to earn money and continue to learn. I’m really enjoying it. I’ve still got loads to learn but it’s going really well.”
On reaching the 1,000 milestone with the Knowsley Apprentice programme, Councillor Mike Murphy, the local authority’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, says: “This is a fantastic milestone to have reached and I am delighted that we have been able to help so many young people across Knowsley to get into work.
“Apprenticeships are a great way for people to earn a good wage, continue to learn and achieve qualifications, and to get some real hands on work experience.”
