The founder of Liverpool-based property developer Legacie has backed comments made by former Prime Minister Tony Blair regarding the growing obstacles facing developers across the UK.
Legacie, which has delivered a number of landmark residential and commercial schemes across the North West including Liverpool’s Parliament Square, Heaps Mill, The Gateway and Salford’s Embankment Exchange, said Blair was right to highlight the damaging impact of excessive regulation and delays on development and investment.
John Morley, founder and CEO of Legacie, says :“Tony Blair has a strong point. Obstacles often delay major schemes that could otherwise deliver homes, jobs and long-term investment into local economies.
“Developers across are facing increasingly complex planning processes, rising regulatory burdens and significant delays which can delay projects for years. It ultimately slows down regeneration in the communities that need it most.
“There is a real opportunity for government and local authorities to work more closely with responsible developers to unlock growth, accelerate regeneration and deliver much-needed housing and commercial space.
“They should listen to Mr Blair’s comments and ensure the planning and regulatory environment supports, rather than hinders, sustainable development.”
Legacie has delivered a number of large-scale residential and mixed-use developments across the North West, particularly in Liverpool and Manchester. Its projects have formed part of wider regeneration efforts, helping bring new homes, investment and activity to key urban areas.
