Plans for ‘significant’ housing development near Kirkby town centre announced

A ‘significant’ housing development is being lined up for Kirkby, it has been revealed.

Following the announcement that St. Modwen has acquired Kirkby town centre for £35.8 million, the firm explained plans for a substantial housing scheme on a 65 acre site located nearby.

Steven Knowles, regional director of St. Modwen, says: “Our investment in Kirkby town centre will bring about vital regeneration to revive the town centre and with the provision of a large new housing scheme will contribute to the Council’s commitment to provide 450 homes per year for the next 15 years.”

The plans are part of a wider regeneration plan for the area that includes a complete overhaul of Kirkby town centre’s shopping area.

Leader of Knowsley Council, Councillor Andy Moorhead, says: “I’m delighted to welcome St. Modwen on board to deliver a major regeneration programme for Kirkby.”
