Prestigious Crosby school puts prime three-acre development site back on the market

Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School in Crosby is selling a 3.32-acre site, which includes the former girls’ school buildings, as it merges the boys’ and girls’ divisions to create a co-educational campus.

The Liverpool Road plot, which also comprises tennis courts, a car park and landscaped areas, was previously under offer to a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school operator which recently withdrew from the sale.

The school, which dates back to 1620, has had a highly distinguished history since its foundation, and the Grade II-listed, two-storey building currently houses the school library and extends to circa 3,600 sq ft.

With a 400 year heritage, Merchant Taylors is set to transition to a co-educational campus for both boys and girls at the current boys’ school site to provide greater operational efficiency and investment to future proof the school.

Located in the coastal town of Crosby within the administrative boundary of Sefton Council and six miles north of Liverpool, it sits in one of the city’s most affluent suburbs.

The site is well connected, bound to the east by the A565 with onward access to Liverpool city centre. To the north and south of the site are predominantly low rise residential and educational uses and Coronational Park adjoins the south-west boundary. Blundellsands & Crosby Train Station is also within walking distance.

Kieran McLaughlin, senior director at CBRE, which is remarketing the site, says: “This is a development opportunity in a highly sought after location in Crosby, with an array of excellent leisure and cultural amenity close by.

“It has potential for a range of alternative uses, subject to planning. It is also within close walking distance of some of Liverpool’s best performing primary and secondary schools, including the new co-educational Merchant Taylors’ School.”
