Hundreds of new Liverpool apartments given the go-ahead

More than 270 apartments will be built near to Liverpool’s Project Jennifer regeneration area after being given the green light.

Developer The Soller Group was granted permission to progress its residential scheme at Liverpool City Council’s planning committee meeting yesterday (21 February).

The project, designed by architect Falconer Chester Hall (FCH), will see 277 apartments created across two blocks alongside communal roof terraces, cycle storage and basement car parking for 120 vehicles.

Alastair Shepherd, director at FCH, says: “When completed this will complement the extensive regeneration currently ongoing along Great Homer Street by making use of what is currently a largely brownfield site.

“It is also another show of investor confidence in the northern edge of the city and adds to the balance of residential accommodation in the area, which includes recently approved student schemes and more traditional housing stock.”

The project is one of two designed by FCH to be approved during the meeting, as 60 new apartments proposed for a site within the Lark Lane Conservation Area were also pushed forward.

Proposed new apartments have been approved for the Lark Lane Conservation Area

Vinco Group plans to retain and convert an existing villa, which has been used as a care home for more than 50 years, and will develop a new building on the site of a former coach house and stables which are to be demolished.

The site, which has frontages on to Alexandra Drive and Aigburth Road, will see 15 two and three-bedroom apartments created inside the existing building and a further 42 properties in the new building.

A gym and car parking will also be included in the scheme.

Adam Hall, managing director of Falconer Chester Hall, adds: “This is an opportunity to enhance the conservation area with a sympathetic conversion to restore and prolong the life of the existing residential property as well as adding a number of high quality apartments on a disused site.

“It will also bring additional benefits to the area in terms of  extra residents to support existing businesses, and add a building of architectural merit along the Aigburth Road frontage.”
