Liverpool dog owners could see their pet become a stage star when ‘La Boheme’ heads to the city.

Pooches are being invited to audition for the romantic opera, which will be performed at the Liverpool Empire on 24 March.

Award-winning director and producer Ellen Kent has launched the search for a talented hound to star as Musetta’s dog in the show, and their owner will also need to go onstage in a costume to look after him or her.

The Puccini masterpiece is based on Henri Murger’s novel ‘Scenes de la vie de boheme’, which is sey in Paris and focuses on the love between seamstress Mimi and poet Rodolfo.

Ellen says: “Many years ago when we last did La Boheme and asked local people to volunteer their pets it was a huge success. We even used a rescue dog once and found him dozens of new owners!

“We’re a nation of animal lovers after all. I’m sure there is plenty of doggie talent out there.”

Dogs audition for the show must be well behaved and small.

Anyone looking to audition their dog for the part must send a photograph, along with a contact number, address and details of the breed, height, weight, age and name, to jules@ellenkent.co.uk.

The owner of the successful dog will be contacted several weeks before the performance.
