Runcorn railway bridge’s newly restored Navigation Fog Bell will be unveiled in a new permanent home this week.

Network Rail removed and repaired the bell, which used to warn approaching ships on the Manchester Ship Canal of the viaduct’s location during fog, as part of its £6 million bridge refurbishment scheme.

The bell has now been donated to Halton Borough Council and will go on permanent display at The Brindley Theatre on Wednesday (10 October) – a date which marks the 150^th anniversary of the opening of the Runcorn railway bridge.
