A former shed making warehouse in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle area could become a new co-working space with flexible offices based in shipping containers, meeting rooms and a café, under plans submitted to Liverpool City Council.

The proposal for the City Centre Sheds site on Jamaica Street includes converting the three-storey brick building, a former shed-making workshop and a large open courtyard that is currently used for displaying timber sheds.

If the application is successful the building will be converted into co-working ‘zones’, studios for film and sound productions, a coffee shop, meeting rooms, workshops and offices. The courtyard will feature seven 20ft shipping containers that will be transformed into office areas. A mezzanine floor will be added to the existing workshop area and new window and doors will open into Jamaica Street under the proposals, while a large training room will be housed in the former workshop.

The application suggests the development will take advantage of the rise of creative businesses in the Baltic Triangle area. It says: “The Baltic Triangle area is now the home to digital and creative sectors in Liverpool. Now these warehouse spaces are home to sprawling entertainment venues such as Camp and Furnace, digital startups, the North Liverpool Academy studio school, creative agencies such as Sound City and Liverpool Biennial.

“Co-working is not only about the physical space, but about establishing the Co-working community first. This will be the ideal venue for people of all ages who are involved with creative industries through either work or studies.”
