Construction has officially started on the next phase of homes at Wirral Waters, marking another significant milestone in the transformation of the Northbank neighbourhood.
Peel Waters, alongside joint venture partners Qualis Developments and Forshaw Group, has commenced work on phase two of Redbridge Quay, delivering 90 new waterside homes on Dock Road in Birkenhead.
The scheme – which received planning approval from Wirral Council earlier this year – will provide 84 one-bedroom and six three-bedroom apartments across six four-storey buildings, designed to reflect the area’s dockland heritage while meeting modern sustainability standards.
Residents will benefit from energy-efficient features including solar panels, EV charging infrastructure and cycle parking, alongside landscaped communal gardens, new tree planting and improved public realm connecting directly to the waterfront promenade.
The development follows the completion of the first phase of Redbridge Quay and Miller’s Quay, two residential schemes that have added new homes to the Northbank area of Wirral Waters.
Construction also begins as work continues across the wider Wirral Waters regeneration project, where a number of residential, commercial and leisure developments are at various stages of planning and delivery.
Recent milestones include:
- Three planning approvals at Mea Park West, most recently for a new 44,982 sq. ft industrial and logistics unit
- The completion of Finsa’s 164,000 sq. ft UK headquarters, bringing new jobs and investment to Birkenhead
- The submission of plans for a new £7 million Aldi food store
- Planning approval for a new David Lloyd Leisure facility earlier this year
- The completion and full occupancy of the 500-home Millers Quay development

James Whittaker, managing director of Peel Waters, says: “This is another big moment for Wirral Waters. Getting spades in the ground for the next phase of Redbridge Quay shows the pace at which this regeneration is now moving.
“We’re not just talking about transformation anymore – we’re delivering it. Across Wirral Waters we’re seeing new homes, jobs, education and leisure all coming forward at once, and that’s what creates a place with real energy and staying power.
“What makes this work is partnership. Our relationships with Qualis Developments and Forshaw Group are built on a shared ambition to deliver at scale and at pace, and that’s exactly what we’re doing here and across our wider portfolio.
“This next phase at Redbridge Quay is another step towards making Wirral Waters one of the UK’s most exciting waterfront districts.”
Lyndon Forshaw, CEO at Forshaw Group, adds: “Starting on site at Redbridge Quay phase two is a great milestone for all of us involved and a strong example of what partnership-led regeneration can achieve.
“Working closely with Peel Waters and Qualis Developments, we’re bringing forward a scheme that combines high-quality design with deliverability and waterfront living – creating homes that are not only well built, but part of a wider, sustainable neighbourhood.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Redbridge Quay take shape and playing our part in the continued growth of Wirral Waters.”
