A Crowdfunder campaign has been launched to help fund a new Liverpool play focusing on the issues around homelessness.

City-based artistic collective, Committee of Horses will stage its ‘Nights in Oblivion’ show at The Whitechapel Centre, St Bride’s Church and The Florrie in May, and is calling on businesses to help the production reach a wider audience.

Written by award-winning filmmaker Adam Baird, who is currently running free creative writing workshops alongside Liverpool charity The Whitechapel Centre for people dealing with homelessness and related issues, the play is set in a night shelter on Christmas Eve and follows the lives of seven men passing through it.

The group behind the show, which also includes director Jack Cooper, has already received backing from Arts Council England, Unity Theatre, arts organisation Hope Street Ltd and The Whitechapel Centre.

Committee of Horses is looking for further support to allow two of its performances to be free ticketed events, open to people working with or dealing with homelessness and related issues themselves.

It is also hoping to stage the show at the Manchester Fringe Festival in July and potentially the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, before returning to Liverpool for a proposed December run at the Unity Theatre.
