Budding pirates and mermaids are being called upon to volunteer for this year’s Pirates on the Dock festival.

Taking place at Albert Dock in September, the event’s organisers want Liverpool’s best ‘Ariel’ and ‘Jack Sparrow’ wannabes to join in a special parade.

Inspired by America’s Coney Island Mermaid Parade, Liverpool’s version has been billed as one of the “most exciting elements” of the 2017 event.

Over 50,000 people turned out for last year’s free festival which will this year again feature live action and theatrical swordfights alongside stunts, music, dance, street theatre and children’s entertainment.

Clare Rawlinson, marketing manager, Albert Dock Liverpool, says: “We introduced the parade to last year’s festival for the first time and it was a true highlight.

“We are thrilled to announce the parade’s return – and for the first time – it will be on both days of the event.

“We want the community to get involved – from toddler groups, rainbows, brownies, beavers, cubs, schools and nurseries, to companies looking for a bit of team bonding with a difference, fashion and performing arts students, charities, and those who simply love to dress up.”
