Record Store Day 2018: Where to celebrate in Liverpool

Record Store Day (RSD) returns on Saturday (21 April) and Liverpool’s music shops and venues are coming out in force to join the festivities.

As the annual occasion celebrates the UK’s independent record stores with special releases and one-off events, we’ve rounded up the city’s top places to make the most of the day.

81 Renshaw, Renshaw Street

What’s happening? Start the celebrations early at the Renshaw Street café, venue and record store as it opens its doors to music fans at 7.30am.

Breakfast butties, teas and coffees will be served to help fuel you through a day of digging through records, before the Venue Space Market Place is opened at 8am.

You’ll be able to scour the record shop’s offering, which will include a selection of RSD’s special limited edition releases, and there’ll be live music throughout the afternoon.

Defend Vinyl, Smithdown Road

What’s happening? The South Liverpool shop is gearing up to host its first Record Store Day celebration, and there’ll be RSD exclusives as well as discounts on used vinyl if you’re looking to boost your collection.

The Jacaranda, Slater Street

What’s happening? There’ll be not one, not two but three floors of vinyl to work your way through in this historic music venue, as Jacaranda Records brings offers around 15,000 records on RSD.

Alongside the chance to pick up official RSD releases and exclusive records by Liverpool artists, you can also enjoy live performances from All We Are and Jalen N’Gonda as The Jacaranda teams up with Skiddle.

Probe Records, School Lane

What’s happening? A must-visit for music fans and collectors on any day of the year, this renowned city centre record store will once again be stepping things up a notch for RSD with a selection of special releases alongside its already comprehensive offer.

British Music Experience (BME), Cunard Building

What’s happening? After a successful dig through the selections at Liverpool’s RSD supporting shops, head down to the waterfront music museum to show them what you’ve purchased on the day.

In return, the BME will reward you for supporting the city’s independent record stores by allowing you into the attraction at a half price entry fee.
