THIS YEAR, LIVERPOOL CATHEDRAL plays host to a new and exciting art project with internationally-renowned sculptor and artist Peter Walker.

‘Peace Doves’ is a mass participation art project culminating in the creation of a beautiful large-scale art installation which will hang from 8th to 31st May inside the Cathedral.

During this February half term (17-21 February), the Cathedral Education Team will be hosting several dove-themed family activity sessions, where children with their parents or carers can write messages of hope and peace on the paper doves provided. Each family friendly session is free and lasts around 30 minutes.

Liverpool Cathedral is free to enter and you’ll find child-friendly trails if you want to spend some time exploring the building. If you’ve got a head for heights you can take a trip up the Tower as well.

To take part in the half term activities, you can book places online at www.liverpoolcathedral.com. Prices for trips up the Tower vary and can also be found on the website.

In the coming months, the Cathedral will be inviting people to visit and write their messages of peace and hope on paper doves. Peter, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors will join the thousands of doves together to create the large-scale installation above the Well.

‘Peace Doves’ was first created by Peter as a temporary art installation consisting of 20,000 individual paper doves with messages of peace written on each one by children from more than 70 schools across Staffordshire.

The installation was suspended in the nave of Lichfield Cathedral, the only medieval three- spired cathedral in the UK, between December 2018 and January 2019.
