Block waives fee to market community housing scheme

Block Management and Property Services will act as sole agent for 32 new properties on Kingsley Road built as a community project to help families in need of an affordable home.

The agent has offered to market the properties on a pro bono basis because of the community aspect of the development by Housing People, Building Communities (HPBC), which offered £10,000 towards owners’ deposits in return for 500 hours of contribution towards the build process. The scheme aims to strengthen communities between owners because of the voluntary work, says HPBC.

The scheme has used nearly 1,000 volunteers contributing over 10,000 hours since its launch in 2012 and the final homes were completed in December 2014.

Rachel Dickman, director at Block Management and Property Services, says: “We are the sole agents on the scheme and have agreed to do it pro bono. We love the aspect of community with the scheme and the way it gives people who may not have the means to own their own home a helping hand. It also strengthens the development of community and this is important to us.”

The three-bedroom terraced properties are available to be purchased outright or on a shared ownership basis.
