A relaunch party will be held at Liverpool’s famous Bombed Out Church this month to mark the beginning of a new era for the Grade II*-listed building.
Two special concerts of The Beatles’ ‘Sgt Pepper’ album to tie in with the city’s 50th anniversary celebrations of the landmark LP will take place in the grounds of the church to mark the reopening of its gardens.
The festivities will begin on Saturday 17 June and the Stratford Festival Orchestra & Choir will be on hand to perform recitals of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ at 1.00pm and 5.00pm.
Food will be on sale and drinks served from a licensed bar at the event, which is ticketed and will raise funds for charity.
The Bombed Out Church’s gardens will officially reopen between 12.00pm and 5.00pm the following day, with members of the public invited to drop by for free. Entertainment, refreshments and food will be available throughout the afternoon.
The venue’s immediate future was secured last month when Bombed Out Church Ltd was appointed by Liverpool City Council to run the church for the next 30 years.
Its interior has undergone a £500,000 restoration funded jointly by the council and Historic England and will reopen in mid-July.
Ambrose Reynolds, curator and artistic director at the Bombed Out Church, says, “We’re delighted to reopen the church to the public once again, a chance to start thanking all of the people who have backed us through this process.”
