Members of the public will get the chance to have their Beatles and Mersey Beat memorabilia appraised for free later this month.
Experts from Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles will be on hand to offer their expertise at a special ‘Memorabilia Day’ taking place at The Beatles Story.
Members of the public are being encouraged to search their homes for any hidden treasures, which could be worth thousands, and bring them along to the event, where Julien’s Auctions’ expert auctioneers and curators will be on hand to offer instant valuations.
Internationally renowned Julien’s has broken world records with the sale of Beatles memorabilia including John Lennon’s acoustic guitar which sold recently for a record $2.4 million and Ringo Starr’s Ludwig drum kit which sold for a record $2.2m.
The Beatles Story and Julien’s recently teamed up to take the Memorabilia Day event to London’s Hard Rock Cafe, which saw a stream of visitors attend with many exciting artefacts to be valued.
Perhaps top of the heap was original Quarrymen member Rod Davis’ banjo (pictured), which was valued on the day at around £10,000.
At last year’s Liverpool event, a letter written by John Lennon addressed to The Queen was uncovered which explained the singer’s reasons for returning his MBE. John’s signature was verified as authentic on the day and the item valued by Julien’s Auctions at around £60,000.
Martin King of The Beatles Story says: “Our two previous events have been a huge success, but we are sure that there are many more fascinating artefacts still waiting to be discovered.
“We would like to encourage the public to search their attics to unearth those hidden gems and bring them along to this Memorabilia Day. It is a fantastic opportunity for people to have their items valued by some of the world’s most well respected experts in celebrity memorabilia.”
Memorabilia Day will take place in The Beatles Story’s Fab4 Cafe, Albert Dock on Wednesday 25 October from 12pm until 8pm.
