Council funding expected for Finch Farm community improvements

Plans to fund a number of community-based improvements at Everton Football Club’s Finch Farm training base will be debated later this week.

Liverpool cabinet members will be asked to approve funding for the additions which include the building of a new education hub, the creation of a show pitch and classroom space.

Everton FC has already gained planning permission from Knowsley Council for the works which also include a new recuperation block, a new groundmans building and additional car parking spaces.

The council agreed a 40-year lease to Everton FC after purchasing the site on an ‘invest to earn’ basis for £12.95 million from Rom Capital in 2013. The club has requested the improvements in return for an increase in the annual rent.

A report which is to be presented to the cabinet on Friday (8 July) states: “It is recommended that the city council agrees to the funding of the improvement works on the same financial basis as the original proposal on ‘invest to earn’ principles”.

The report adds that the recommendation supports the Mayor’s priority to create 20,000 new jobs in the city and also notes Everton FC’s work within the local community.
