Everton in the Community (EitC) held a ground breaking ceremony yesterday (1 March) as work began on its new EitC Community Hub.

The ceremony was attended by EitC CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale MBE and the football club’s charity staff.

Located near Everton Football Club’s stadium, the hub will create a ‘campus’ where local people will be able to access facilities, attend counselling and learn new skills.

The hub, which will be completed in August, will create a space for young people to socialise and a Teen Zone will allow access to EitC programmes and facilities. These programmes include  opportunities for people of all ages to gain qualifications that could lead to careers in sports coaching, activity leadership and early-years development.

Denise Barrett-Baxendale says: “We are delighted to now be at the stage to commence work on our new EitC Community Hub. This fantastic facility will allow us to offer members of our community a safe haven where they can socialise safely; access employment, training, and education and volunteering opportunities; receive support around physical health and provide access for isolated members of our community to engage with us via our programmes.”

Located in one of the UK’s most deprived wards, EitC hopes that the hub will be an accessible and affordable facility that can help to tackle the issues faced in the local area such as child poverty, unemployment, housing, crime, health and education.
