Over one million people visited Liverpool, as the Giants street theatre returned to the city for a war-themed performance named Memories of August 2014.

The giant marionettes, created by French company Royal de Luxe, included the Little Girl Giant and her dog Xolo, the stars of the 2012 Sea Odyssey event. The two joined whiskey-drinking, pipe-smoking Grandmother Giant to commemorate 100 years since the beginning of the First World War.

After ‘waking up’ in St George’s Hall, the Grandmother spent three days roaming the city with the other giants. Local memories of the First World War were shared with the crowd and volunteers re-enacted the enlisting of the Liverpool Pals regiment, which saw entire streets sign up and suffered heavy casualties in the conflict.
